Sunday Mornings

Time & Location:

  • 1st Service: 9:30 - 10:30 am.
  • 2nd Service: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm.

During each service AWO provides:

  • ROOM 114 - This room is utilized for children who are active and are not easily disturbed by noise, i.e. musical toys, bouncing balls, loud voices, etc. For ages 1 - 12 years.
  • INCLUSION - ANY CLASSROOM - As volunteers become available, inclusion services may be utilized by those interested; via a 'buddy' system, on an as needed basis. For all ages.
  • B4 - This room will be utilized for teenagers to more easily socialize with their age-appropriate. (as volunteers allow). For ages 12 and up.

-------------------------------------------

The AWO ministry does its best to set-up the rooms in a fashion that accommodates and ensures the safety of our children and volunteers while meeting individual needs. Each room is currently equipped with: Learning areas, quiet/calming areas, play areas, manipulatives, and less intrusive lighting.

Safety

  • Every Sunday morning CCM has a doctor or nurse on-call (for the entire church) during both services.
  • A minimum of two adults per AWO classroom is required.
  • The program director spends time in each classroom during both services to assist volunteers as needed.
  • An emergency contact system for parents, a cell phone friendly infrastructure, and walkie-talkies enhance our ability to contact help if needed.
  • Each AWO classroom is positioned near an emergency exit, should the need for evacuation occur.
  • An AED kit, pager system, and emergency telephones are also available to the church.

-------------------------------------------

curriculum

AWO utilizes Boardmaker and 'tangibles or manipulatives' in adapting the Sunday school curriculum to an individual's learning style. Those involved with AWO are able to learn the same lesson as their age-appropriate peers. In essence, the same lesson(s) will be taught on the same day, regardless of where or how an individual learns the material.

"Carry-over" is an important step in maintaining consistency. Your loved one will be provided with a curriculum worksheet to take home each Sunday. Use this as a guide to enforce what lesson was covered, what Bible verses and activities we worked on.

-------------------------------------------

behavior

AWO utilizes the following in each classroom:

  • Positive Reinforcement.
  • Social Stories.
  • 'Calm Down' Schedules
  • Quiet Corner Rest Areas
  • Individualized Behavior Plans
